7th Nine Minutes Film Competition

“Nine Minutes” Film Competition is an “Olympic Games” for all filmmakers. With the same location, same equipment and same amount of money, you can achieve your different individual dreams. We are looking for the best story telling talents and the most unforgettable images.

The competition consists of three sections: Main Competition, Special Invitation and Wild Card. Based on the rules of the Competition, winner of the “Best Team” will be awarded 1 million RMB for feature film development.

Our purpose:

The competition starts with team building; then the film production process; finally screening the completed work to a broad audience. Under the watch of the media, the committee will choose the most creative talents (director, screenwriter, actors/actress and others) in terms of art and commercially viability. Through the process, we hope to add more dynamics to the China film industry.

Our support:

1.We offer 100 thousand RMB to each production team, no more no less. 

2.All the equipment and technical personnel should be rented or hired through the competition committee.

3.The committee will make it best to coordinates for the free use of public shooting locations within the Jiading District, Shanghai.

4.The committee will provide all food and hotel accommodations.

5.A specialized consultant will be assigned for each production team.

6.Executive producers will be available to offer help during the production process.

 

 Usage of the fund

1.12 thousand RMB in cash: 8 thousand will be used for props, costumes, locations and extras. Producers assigned by the committee will keep the money safe, and it is the director’s freedom to decide how to use the money. The rest of the money will be used for transportation of the team of 6 people.

2.8.1 thousand is for food and hotel accommodations (180 RMB/person/day) including 7 days production for 6 people and 3 days post-production for the director. It is the director’s freedom to decide how to use the money.

3.79.9 thousand is for equipment rental and technical personnel hiring. According to the price quotes from the committee, each team can rent cameras, lights and sound equipment and hire technical personnel. The committee should conduct all the coordination.

The competition’s procedure:

1.Stories Collecting: We collect great stories globally through our website and other platforms. The committee will choose 40 stories.

2.Adaption and Screenplay Writing：the committee will collect screenplays developed from the published 40 stories’ synopsis and also other sources of stories. The committee will choose the most popular 12 plays of them as the final qualifiers.

3.Team building: The committee will choose 12 professional production teams to match with the screenplays based on their own intents.

4.Production: the chosen teams will be required to finish the production and post-production in 10 days within the limited time slot and place.

5.Awards Voting: the committee will vote for the 13 awards.

6.Award Ceremony: the ceremony will be held in a theater. The committee and industry celebrities will present the awards. Winner of the “Best Team” will be awarded 1 million RMB for feature film development.

August 5th First round: 24 teams

August 10th final 12 teams (Based on the preparation)

Pre-production:

July 5th – August 25th Location scout and preparation

Production:

August 26th-September 22nd  “Nine Minutes” 12 teams’ shooting

September 1s – September 22nd “Special Invitation” 6 teams’ shooting

December 1st – February 27th, 2017 Screening and Voting

The requirement for the teams:

1.The director of each team must have very strong story telling ability and some experience in professional film production.

2.The director of photography should be able to operate professional HD cameras.

3.The committee has the right to approve the actors and actress first.

4.The committee must approve the screenplay first.

5.The teams must complete the same length film within the limited time slot and location.

Copyrights:

1.“Nine minutes Film” committee owns all the right of the completed films and footages.

2.The team and other staff own the right of authorship.

3.The director owns the right of non-commercial screening of the film.

4.The committee and the creators of the film share the right of attending film festivals and receiving awards.

Application:

1.All applications are through Internet.

2.All team members must use the real information for application. Once unreal information is found, the committee will cancel your right of application.

3.Each team must have no less than six job positions within the team.

4.Each team must provide introduction of the team members and their past works. The intro video of the team members and their past works must upload to the competition’s official Weibo. The team’s blog should also be established. Fill all the needed information in the application form and submit it to the committee’s Email.

5.The Team’s blog must have detailed introduction of each member. All the works must include its team’s name.
